Ideas for your School Website
A good school website is a powerful opportunity to involve, inform and communicate with the whole school community - pupils, parents, staff and the local community. Used strategically, a website can save time and resources, improve communication, integrate systems and, in itself, be used as a learning resource.
And don't forget the professional, successful image you will be presenting to prospective pupils, parents and staff when they visit your new website.
Stuck for ideas? Below are a few ideas of how you might choose to use your website:

A Sustainability Tool
The
DCSF National Framework for Sustainable Schools identifies eight ‘doorways’ through
which schools may choose to initiate or extend their sustainable school activity.
Using us to provide your website is a perfect example of sustainable procurement
through the Purchasing & Waste Doorway.
But this is just the start of how
our websites can help your school become more sustainable. Here are some ideas
to get you started:
| Doorway |
Use your website to: |
Purchasing & Waste |
- Publish don’t print! Upload all your shared documents
E.g. parent letters, school policies, have an online prospectus etc
|
Inclusion & Participation |
- Enable pupils to publish their own pages
- Enable the school council to publicise
school issues
|
Local well-being |
- Create a community section with links to community
resources
- Publicise details of extended school resources available for the community
- Offer
to use an area of the school website for local issues putting the school at the
heart of the community
- Create a community news section
|
Global dimension |
- "Twin" your website with international
schools
- Organise virtual visits of international schools
- Have a live web camera in
a classroom on a private page
|
Why not create a sustainability section on your website to articulate your
sustainable school aspirations and try to involve the whole school community
in your efforts?
Or create an environmental or green awareness area and use your website to kickstart or publicise progress on say, recycling initiatives?
